About Us
Operntanz originated out of my love for opera, dance and music. I grew-up in a small southern town in Virginia. On Sundays, all we had to watch were programs like the Hallmark Hall of Fame which would sometimes sponsor opera performances. Even though I could not understand French, German or Spanish, I became mesmerize by the sound of the beautiful voices. I grew more fondness of opera when Paul Robeson and Marian Anderson took to the opera stage.
Many African Americans were not fully accepted on Broadway during the 1930. Many took to the opera stage because they were fully accepted or more accepted. My next door teacher (Ocie Bethel) also influenced my love of opera. She was in the process of trying to bring back opera to my hometown before she died. I had many discussions with her about this.
The blog also features many other entertainment sections. I know that many will not appreciate my love for opera, so I included sections which deal with modern dance, Fine Arts and a variety of musical form. I hope you will enjoy coming to the blog as much as I enjoyed setting it up.
