Obama in a speech on Wednesday attacked Ryan Medicaid Voucher Program. Congressman Ryan Claimed that his health care program will save 2.2 trillion dollars after Obama’s healthcare program is repealed. The Law would cut Medicare Advantage which competes with other private insurance plans. His plan would dismantle Medicare and set aside 10 billion dollars to re-open the program again. The CBO estimated that repealing the Health care bill would actually raise the deficit by 210 billion dollars over a 10 year period.
The Medicaid Program will become a block program under the Ryan Healthcare bill. Each individual state would be given a certain amount of money each year. The Government would decrease or increase the amount based on the rate of inflation. Ryan claimed that this would save the government 750 billion dollars over a 10 year period, but many leading economist question his numbers.
The retirement age will also be raised to 67 by the year 2033. Obama stated that he would never agree to a Medicare voucher problem. He stated that the problem with the voucher program is that it would not cover the complete medical cost. Seniors would be given a voucher to use on the open market. If the voucher did not cover the cost, they would have to make up the different in out of pocket expenses.
Tax cuts would be used to cover part of the cost for Ryan’s health bill. The Republicans want to drop the tax rate down from 35% to 25%. According to analysis, this was the same rate in 1920. Obama
stated that for every tax cut of 200,000 dollars going to millionaires, 13 seniors will lose 6,000 dollars of their retirement benefits each year.
